Three Returns

Saturn returns to the zodiacal position he held at your birth, every 29 years and 154 days. In a typical lifetime this happens three times. Nobody sees a fourth return.

Being the furthest planet visible to naked eye and therefore having the slowest pace, Saturn is deemed eldest, and also most-heavy.

The legend

In the golden age Saturn was chief authority. Today he is the grandfather, and most senior member of the celestial family.

The Symbol

Saturn in our nativity represents our capacities and attainments in wisdom. He has a reputation for signifying obstacle and delay but also for that kind of wisdom which may only be appreciated after sufficient time has passed.

Saturn also signifies the hermit-like quality of withdrawal, of isolation and intense concentration. Without focussed effort little of significance is ever achieved.

The Qualities

Every planet has both negative and positive attributes. Saturn may pull against our will which is really our life energy. He can oppose our enthusiasm and try to quash our passions. He also represents stasis, habit, inertia, not to mention futile and out-moded waste. His craft may be exemplary in old school quality and standards but not when set against modern taste and haste.
